This Artwork of Sara Khayat is the cover of a book that documents the experiences of women survivors of arbitrary detention who participated in workshops and trainings organized by The Day After, and these stories represent part of women’s experiences with political and social violence. Thousands of Syrian women after 2011 were victims of arbitrary detentions, suffering political, social, and psychological violence. Sara Khayat drew this beautiful image for the cover of the book So I am not kept in the shadows: an oral history collection of 11 stories about women narrating their experience.
